Drew jolted up in bed, his head quickly swiveling around before he calmed down, seeing that he was in his own room once again.

Was it all a dream? Guess there’s one way to find out…

No, I guess it wasn’t a dream – and holy hell, look at those stats!

Not really knowing what to do with himself, Drew got out of bed, changed out of the overly nice clothes he had on, and threw on something more comfortable before walking out back and relieving himself. He’d drunk a huge mug of cocoa, after all.

Drew was halfway through zipping up his fly when a voice called out to him from nearby.

“Oh good, you’re up. You passed out after accepting your profession. Not to worry. It was likely due to the stat increase and the Champion’s Mark being inscribed upon your body and soul.”

Drew glanced around, frantically zipping up his fly as he looked for The Lady.

“Just send your thoughts to me like you do with your minions,” she said, her voice lightly echoing through his head.

“Uh… Raynalyr?” Drew asked cautiously, thinking of her as he thought the words.

“Yes.”

“Oh good, I thought I was going insane, hearing voices in my head and all.”

“If you are, it’s not due to hearing my voice within your mind.”

It seemed the goddess of death really did have a morbid sense of humor.

“That’s not very reassuring. Sorry I passed out. How did I get back here?” Drew asked, his head tilted toward the sky. He didn’t know if that was where she lived, but it somehow felt correct.

“You were teleported back, but sadly I forgot to give you the Baleful Lantern that your profession requires, so I’ve sent out a courier from my Cadre with it and some other supplies.”

“Supplies?”

“You’ll see shortly. She’ll be there in an hour or two.”

“Well, that sure beats five to seven business days,” Drew chuckled to himself.

“I don’t understand.”

“Ask Hades, he can explain it. Anyways, thanks again, chat soon!” Drew replied quickly, hurrying back into the house.

When he felt the connection between the Primordial of Death drop, Drew let out a sigh of relief. As nice as she was, it felt like a mountain was looking over his shoulder when he spoke with her telepathically, which was unsettling.

Drew wandered around the house looking for his friends and his wife, and when he couldn’t find Amber anywhere else, he checked the bathroom, guessing she might be changing clothes in the closet since he couldn’t find her anywhere else.

The bathroom was empty, but Drew paused, glowing light catching his attention in his peripheral. When he turned and saw himself in the mirror, he stared at his reflection in shock before frantically reaching out to the goddess via the Bat-phone.

“I thought you said it was a freckle!” Drew practically screamed.

“Oh, Champion, so nice to hear your voice again so soon.
