So much had happened in the days since my date with Jensen.

I was an emotional melting pot; excited about my new job, yet anxious about it, giddy and soaring over Jensen’s attention, but worried he was too good to be true. Still, things were moving forward.

My mother had put her house on the market and would be moving to Atlanta soon. Jensen and I spent several evenings looking around for homes all over the city, often taking Remi and Dylan with us. Jensen was so happy, and Dylan gravitated toward him with an apparent wonder that both elated and terrified me.

I’d decided an apartment would be faster to find than a house and I put a deposit down on a nice, though modest, three-bedroom pretty much equidistant between the ESPN office, Chase and Teagan’s, and Jensen’s homes.

I was excited about the process and all of the time spent with Jensen was exciting, and Dylan was blossoming in our new life. I couldn’t remember the last time I felt so alive. All it took for my heart to skip a beat was the briefest touch of Jensen’s hand or an appreciative glance. The sexual tension between us was so thick I could physically feel it humming in the air when we were together. The goodnight kisses stolen when the kids weren’t looking after Remi was back at home, or Dylan was sleeping, were so hungry they literally took my breath away.

Things were moving fast, and while Dylan would be a little sad to leave the obvious comfort of Chase and Teagan’s luxurious home, my new place allowed us more privacy, yet the nearby location kept him in the school with Remi. Chase won that argument with Teagan. I was struggling with whether to leave him enrolled due to the high cost of tuition, but I hated to uproot my little boy again. Chase offered to pay for it, causally teasing that it was his soccer scholarship fund, but I didn’t feel right taking his or Jensen’s offer to help; they’d done so much for me already, and a big part of me wanted to make it on my own. Rent was lower than a mortgage, which was another solid reason for leasing. My heart yearned for Jensen. Though I hoped we would be together at the end of the lease, I reminded myself that it was too early to start thinking about that.

In a flash, the weekend was upon us, and for the first time in a long time, I felt confident and at ease with my decisions. In the few weeks that had passed since leaving Wyoming, my panic was easing little by little. I was finding it easier to push down my fear and stop looking over my shoulder waiting for something awful to happen.

When Jensen, the crew, and I flew off to Baltimore, I was still stuck in a state of dream-like awe and could barely contain my happiness because Jensen had taken on several days of extra work to be with me during my first assignment with ESPN.
