The man realized the bench was meaningful to someone and he dragged it up the hill above the creek so it would be safe from the rain and the risk of washing away. Eric moved his bench down a river and up on a hill where he wanted travelers to come and sit and view the water, listen to the wind and birds, and awaken their deepest truths, remembering to love their life and the gifts it offers.
On the day we spread his ashes at Graveyard Fields, we went on a long hike. And after hiking for a bit, I looked down on the ground and saw a heart-shaped rock looking back at me. I knew it was representative of Ericâs heart, and it was special to hold it in my hand. It was a reminder that Ericâs spirit was expansive. He was in the rocks, trees, stream, mountains, wind, and grass. He was everywhere. Today, that heart-shaped rock sits atop my ancestor altar.
Being connected to my intuition more deeply has led me to live my life from a place of listening to the natural world, which means I have had to acknowledge my connection with the natural world. Recognizing the connection I have with the planet calls me into behaving in a way that honors the planet. My ancestors have been available to communicate and work with me from a different realm; my work is to stay open as a channel for them to direct me as they sit in council and encourage me to live into what my highest self knows and desires. Eric reminds me to listen for the next step and for the information I need to know to inform the right next step, not just for myself but for humanity. My intuition reminds me of my divine connection with all energies, beings, and elements. When I see my own divine connection with other beings, I am able to lead my life in a way that is an attempt at living into the oneness of being instead of creating more suffering.
Intuition isnât just a thought; itâs a feeling that comes from some other place than the intellectâa feeling that calls us into action. Now is a time when we desperately need to reconnect with our intuition and heartsâ wisdom to steward ourselves and the planet into balance and a process of healing, just as my spiritual practice stewarded me in grieving the loss of Eric. We are born with a connection to our heartâs wisdom. All we need to practice is remembering and nurturing this connection. The following practices are designed to teach you how to create boundaries and maintain your life force, as well as hear what your highest self and intuition have to communicate with you about what we as a collective need to do moving forward to live in more sustainable waysâways that recognize our inherent resilience, wisdom, and connection.
