CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

WENDY

A no-win situation faced the skinheads. Certain doom loomed on the horizon for the treacherous clan. No matter what Davidson said next, their fate was sealed.

“Please, Mr. Vargas. Give—”

Two cracks of gunfire sounded at either side of Simpson and Brysen. The brief muzzle flash filled Wendy’s gaze as she watched the execution of the thugs.

The bullets punched the sides of their skulls. Blood blossomed in the wake of the projectile exiting, breaking through bone.

Both men collapsed, dropping to the floor, dead upon impact.

Davidson gasped, lowered his head, and lifted both arms into the air. “Shit. Please don’t kill me. I’ll do whatever you want. I swear it. Just don’t shoot me.”

Wendy found the situation Davidson now found himself in ironic. She’d told him what scheming would get him and his ilk.

Vargas towered in front of the sniveling man. He reached toward one of his men standing nearby, wiggling his fingers.

The suit placed his pistol in the kingpin’s hand, then stepped back. The barrel pressed to the crown of the Neo-Nazi’s head. “Examples must be made. You see, if I cave to your request, or show mercy here, then my enemies would see that as weakness, and try to exploit it. I simply cannot have that, especially now when the city is ripe for the taking.”

Davidson whimpered. The once confident and arrogant racist piece of trash now found himself looking down the barrel of a bleak future that would shortly end.

Wendy didn’t enjoy seeing others suffer, but the world needed to be rid of certain men, and Davidson was one she’d not care to see again.

“Bang,” Vargas said, not pulling the trigger.

Davidson convulsed, shuddering and weeping.

Vargas lowered the gun to his side, then patted Davidson’s head. “I’m not going to kill you, yet. Perhaps I might find a use for you soon.”

“Thank you,” Davidson replied, body shaking.

“Don’t thank me, yet. There are worse things than death.” Vargas gave the gun back to the suit, then turned and faced Wendy. “Take him away and dispose of the other two bodies and that trash heap they have parked in front of my building.”

Davidson was escorted away at gunpoint. Both eyes were shiny, tears streaming down his flushed, dirty cheeks. He shot Wendy an angry glance before passing through the doorway.

The bodies of the other skinheads were dragged out of the office, leaving a trail of blood behind them.

“Can you make sure this is handled properly?” Vargas asked Cutter, skirting the girth of the immense desk. “And get someone up here to clean this mess up.”

“I’m on it, boss.” Cutter walked away, running his hand through his hair.

“Grab a chair for our young friend to sit in,” Vargas said to one of his men. “I imagine she’s tired and would like to rest instead of standing.”

Wendy was led back to the front of the desk. The sight of blood staining the carpet twisted her gut.

A chair was brought and placed beside her.

Vargas sat down in his chair and extended his arm. “Please, have a seat, Ms.
