Chapter 10

“Its just one of those days when you don’t wanna wake

up…everything is fucked, everybody sucks…” Isaac

screamed, obsessively drumming on his steering wheel

and nodding his head to the beat of the music. He had

dug out his angry “hate everyone and everything” music

that had been hibernating in his glove compartment ever

since he went through a meltdown a few years ago

when he came out to his parents. The CD’s hadn’t been

touched since then, but he didn’t dare throw them

away. He sensed he would need them again someday.

A cool breeze crept through the tiny slit in the

window he had made to keep it from getting too hot in

the cab. His eyes acutely folowed any sign of color that

flashed by him on the highway—bilboards, semis, other

car’s headlights, road signs— anything to keep his

attention. He was too busy focused on hating his son of

a bitch boyfriend to care that he was flying eighty-nine

miles per hour throughout most of Adams County. He

saw a sign marked, “Parker-36 miles,” and he began

thinking of the time that he and Nathan drove off late at

night and ended up having sex in the dugout at a field

they’d played basebal in as kids. This brought on more

torrential screams of fury, drowning out the equaly

infuriated musicians’ lyrics. Isaac couldn’t remember the

last time he had felt so determined to resolve a

bothersome issue. And he knew the sooner he could

get to Nathan, the sooner he could stop wondering why

what happened had happened.

Stil, he was looking at quite a journey. About

twenty-two hours and 1,452 miles to be exact. He

would be trekking over five different states and crossing

two different time zones to get to the man he was quite

sure he was going to strangle with his bare hands. If

only Nathan would have said something… anything…

why he was there. In Detroit!

Isaac looked down at his watch. He had

synchronized it with the digital clock in his little silver

Toyota Camry. Isaac was the practical businessman of

the two men. Nathan had kept his rambunctious,

adventurous side at heart when purchasing model after

models of SUVs. It was Isaac, however, that kept it

sensible with his easy-to-afford, dependable, and

mileage-friendly cars. He didn’t mind tooling down

back roads at 4am if it meant he was guaranteed to

make it home without the slightest bit of trouble. Plus,

with his newly instaled speaker system, you couldn’t

tel him that his car was sissy—he wouldn’t hear it.

Isaac was al man. Even if his raven hair did graze the

soft felt roof.

The CD changed tracks to an inaudible screaming

fit of several voices. Isaac scrunched his nose up and

screamed with them. He continued to bang his head into

the air, looking down at the clock after a few minutes

had passed. He glanced down at the quiet cel phone

that he had plugged into his lighter jack. Jake was such

a great friend for lending his out. Isaac knew he needed

to work on his temper when it came to inanimate

objects. His rage had damaged more electronics and

glassware than any earthquake or tornado could’ve. He

had gotten so angry within the past hour that he was

literaly sweating and had to rol up his sleeves to avoid

heat exhaustion.
