CHAPTER 10

The storm made it impossible for the Falco brothers to continue up Interstate 25 toward the last place Heath’s cell phone had service. Before they left Fool’s Gold, they learned Tessa Callahan was with him. Two people to save. Twice as many things that could go wrong. Seth couldn’t afford those thoughts.

He drove the lead vehicle with Trent riding beside him. The truck smelled of sweat and adrenaline.

Troy and Marcus followed in Marcus’s truck. Marcus had wanted to take his helicopter and fly over the area, more likely to spot them and end this mission quickly, but the impending storm wouldn’t allow for that. They were grounded and forced to drive. Now they were forced to get off the road. Stopping now was a huge problem because it wasted time. Every second in a survival mission counted.

But the storm was in control out here. And she shook with the anger of a woman used to having her way. Not wanting to risk driving over the cliff’s edge, Seth pulled off the road with caution. He checked to see if Marcus followed. When Marcus’s turn signal blurred against the rain, Seth turned off the engine.

“Is he fucked?” Trent said, staring out the window.

“Not if I can help it.” Seth checked his phone. The storm and the mountain had stolen the cell service. He tossed his phone on the dash.

“No service?”

“Nope.”

“No one knows where we are. And we can’t get help.” Trent’s voice was void of emotion. Seth could respect that.

No time for emotions now. They needed to stay focused. They couldn’t think about anything but finding Heath and Tessa. They couldn’t even think about Heath being their brother. Because then they might mess up.

“Not likely. We have to rely on ourselves.” Seth and Trent had been in plenty of situations where they could only trust themselves. Not the best when it came to operating as a team. But they were Team Falco. They would accomplish their mission at all costs.

“This storm is going to fuck us,” Trent said.

Seth was a man of honesty. He didn’t believe in sugarcoating a response when the raw truth worked best. “Probably.”
