THE MARBLEHEAD TROPHY, 1980. The idea of a Marblehead/Hyannis Challenge Cup occurred to Jeff Foster and John Scott when they first came from Marblehead to Hyannis to race in Figawi. At that time Marblehead, Massachusetts, and Newport, Rhode Island, were considered to be the premier locations for competitive sailing in New England. Neither of them thought it would be very difficult to win going away on Nantucket Sound. But it was almost impossible. In 1980, the Hyannis team won the Marblehead Cup for the third time. Here, John Osmond holds the trophy as Wayne Kurker of Hyannis Marine looks on. (Courtesy of the Figawi Archives.)
