The car dropped me off at the back of the venue so I could avoid the red carpet; the crowds and photographers lined along it still going strong as celebrities and famous faces mingled with the finest athletes from all of New York’s teams. The Rangers knew how to throw a party and when they did, it was always the hottest ticket in town.

Now to find out where everyone else was.

Felix: Where are you?

Drew: The bar on the second floor

If I hadn’t spent the last seven weeks on crutches with a broken leg, I would have taken the stairs two at a time. But I had, so I couldn’t, which meant I didn’t get to the second floor as quickly as I wanted. Instead, I was stopped by almost everyone I passed, by too many people I didn’t know who wanted to ask how I was and when I was going to play again, or have a photo taken or give me their opinion on the team without me. Or try and slip me their number. All wanting a piece of me.

All taking valuable seconds away from where I should be.

I spotted her before I saw anyone else, standing with Wolf and Emerson to the side of the boys.

I’d been right, she looked like a goddess. She was a goddess, glowing bright.

Like Edison had handed her the switch and the rest of them were only worthy of basking in her light.

She was breathtaking.

She was mine.

“Hey, there he is.”

I ignored Huck, walking straight past him and into the circle they’d formed until I was standing in front of her. Until she was all I could see, although she’d been all I’d seen for weeks, months. Maybe ever. She stopped talking and looked up at me, her bright eyes widening with more sparkle, if that was even possible.

“Hi, Mol.”

Her thick black lashes batted as she took me in. “Hello.”

In her heels she was much taller than usual, coming up to my shoulder as opposed to my chest line, but she still had to crane her neck as I towered over her, her head tilting back as she stared up at me.

I lifted an errant curl which had caught on an eyelash and brushed it away. “I told Coop.”

Her eyes roamed around my face, looking for any hint of how our conversation had gone. “And?”

I ran the pad of my thumb along her jaw, stroking along her cheek, enjoying the feel of her soft, soft skin. Her lips parted slightly, the shimmery pink stuff had worn off, and I tugged down her lower one until her tongue peeked out.

I smiled, taking her face in my palms, encasing her delicate features. “You’re so beautiful.”

She lifted up on her tiptoes as I dipped to meet her, our lips teasing before I sunk into her to a crescendo of gasps behind us, which quietened out the deeper I got, blocking out everything but her and this moment. My hands shifted around to the nape of her neck, pulling her in further as her fingers crept up my chest.
