3. “We are losing our freedoms in America, especially to worship God. We can be jailed for publicly expressing our faith.” False fear as a result of true facts.

Truth:

Blessed [happy, fortunate, well off] are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven… (Matthew 5:10-12).

That must be the process for us in today’s God-hostile environment—embrace God’s truth and reject the lie. Bill Johnson has said, “Believing a lie empowers the liar.” Once we embrace His truth, the feeling (the confident trust in His faithful care) will come.

The result of acknowledging His leading us in safety, even when it takes us into the wilderness experience, is expressed in the next phase of the Psalm: “…so that they did not fear” (Ps. 78:53). This is a natural, supernatural outflow of confidently trusting His leading.

We must understand that His leading is not to keep us from the wilderness, but to manifest His supernatural care in it. It says, “Yea, though I walk through the valley” (Ps. 23:4). Not around!

In another psalm, David encourages us to, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved (shaken)” (Ps. 55:22). Listen to the glorious meaning of sustain from Strong’s Concordance: “to maintain, nourish, provide food, bear, hold up, protect, support, defend; to supply the means necessary for living” (Strong’s, H3557). Incredible! God’s tender care for His children leaves no stone unturned. When the burden of cruel treatment is too hurting to endure, Daddy is there to scoop us up, bind up our wounds, heal our heart, and set a table before us in the presence of our enemies (see Ps. 23:5). No human, no matter how close, can lead us as safely as Father can. His peace that passes all understanding will guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (see Phil. 4:7).

I believe that is the only thing that will carry us victoriously through these trying times. Spend time soaking in His presence; rest in Him and be refreshed. Experience His shalom, and dwell in that secret place (see Ps. 91:1). That’s where you’ll find me. Join me—there’s always room for one more!
