The first project, a large, early-twentieth-century stable and garage, had been already remodeled by its owners—rotated on its site so it overlooked the ocean and extensively enlarged into comfortable guest quarters. Details, including the sturdy original ceiling beams and posts, were carefully preserved to honor the home’s origins. John helped bring a sense of warmth and intimacy to the rooms with the addition of Farrow & Ball color and wallpaper. In the dining room, the intimate patterns of “St Antoine” damask wallpaper and the glow of “Rectory Red” paint on the mantel give the room a warmth and charm that are perfect for long, candlelight dinners in front of the fire while listening to the waves crash on the beach below.
