All good things must come to an end.

Maybe for a while, but not forever. My relationship with Scarlet had shown me that. This weekend with her was additional proof. Because it was now Monday morning, and I had to go to work. But for the first time in my life, I was going to work knowing I’d have something—someone—to come home to.

There was no better feeling.

This weekend had been the best weekend of my life. Scarlet and I had had an incredible reunion, and I loved that she was so willing to just go with the flow. As important as working through our issues and all the things that led us to a fourteen-year separation were to discuss, she didn’t feel the need to dwell on it incessantly.

Sure, we had a few conversations throughout the weekend, but our time wasn’t marred by needing to rehash every single detail of the mistakes we’d made in our past.

And now, as I stared down into her beautiful face, I was undoubtedly falling deeper in love with her. I never thought it was possible, but apparently, I was wrong. Scarlet wrapped her arms around my waist, her gorgeous body plastered to mine, and her chin tipped up so she could look in my eyes.

Over the last few days, I found myself examining her face frequently. My need to do that felt like a mix between wanting to memorize every part of her again and my disbelief that she was back in my life.

Giving her a squeeze, I said, “I want you to come and have lunch with me today.”

“What?” she asked.

“I’m already suffering from a bit of separation anxiety,” I started. “You said you aren’t planning to start writing a new book until January, and you’ll still need to eat anyway. I think it’d be nice to have lunch together. Besides, it’s not like we’ve gone out on a date since we’ve reunited.”

She laughed and reminded me, “That’s because you’ve hardly given us enough time to come up for air all weekend.”

It was true.

But I didn’t care.

I didn’t regret one minute of my time with her.

“Can you blame me?” I countered.

Scarlet shook her head. “No. I’ve loved every single minute of it,” she assured me.

I pressed a kiss to her forehead, tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear, and asked, “What do you have planned for today?”

“Watering my plants,” she declared.

I cocked an eyebrow. “What?” I asked through my overwhelming urge to laugh.

“I’ve been away all weekend,” she argued. “And I was so caught up in you that I didn’t do it when we stopped over to pick up my things on Saturday. So, I have to water my plants.”

My lips twitched. It was a struggle, but I managed to stop myself from laughing. “Is this going to take you all day?” I wondered.

Scarlet rolled her eyes at me. “No. But I need to do that first. Then I should probably give Elise a call. I’m willing to bet she’s freaking out since she hasn’t heard from me all weekend and knew I was planning to try and get my man back.
