Chapter 11

THELMA

Grady hovers over me as we move from the newly permanent town car I am to always use with the same driver and through Dynamo’s large front doors. Once we are inside, Grady falls into step beside me, his eyes flickering around as I glare at my new shadow.

He looks good in his workout clothes and looks like he fits in. I suppose that’s one reason the Rothwell Agency can charge so much – they offer a good service. Grady completely blends in.

I stiffen as his hand lands on my back, and he steers me up the stairs to the main gym floor. I have learned in the last twenty-four hours that Grady Quinn distrusts elevators. Something about them being deathtraps. I think he means that you can get trapped without an exit, not that he’s afraid the cabling will break and plummet you to your death.

Holly is using the Stairmaster as we approach. She waves eagerly, hitting pause and dropping her towel to claim the machine as she climbs down to speak with me.

Grady automatically steps back, lingering a few feet away from us and scanning the room. I think I’m safe in here. Jimmy has a fairly strict members-only policy. If Holly Rampwood hadn’t walked me in, and I hadn’t walked Grady in, neither of us would have ever set foot this far in the building.

Holly’s eyes linger on Grady flickering over his form as she grins.

“Damn, you got a hot bodyguard, girl. Between him and Jimmy, you’re swimming in sexiness right now. I may hate you.”

Maybe, but I think she forgets one thing. “Neither of them is your type. I’ve seen my brother.”

A dreamy look crosses Holly’s face. “He’s the yummiest of them all.”

Yuck. That’s my brother she is mentally undressing in front of me right now.

“Gross.”

Holly rolls her eyes, laughing and asking if there has been any progress in figuring out who is behind the threats. Sadly, there’s been none. Holly abruptly cuts off.

“Did you see the latest Bake-off episode?”

Huh? Holly watches some British baking TV shows. I have no idea, she mentions it to me, but she knows I don’t watch it.

The reason for her abrupt right turn in conversation stops beside me, his woodsy scent wrapping around my senses. Jimmy. Shit. I haven’t worked out how to explain Grady’s presence. Not to mention I’m way keyed up and would love a stress-killing sex session right now. Stupid threats!

“Ready for your class?” His deep voice rumbles over me, and I suck in a breath, totally needing his hand down my pants. Ugh, I need to stop thinking about it.

“Yeah.”

Holly laughs, waving as she climbs back up on her Stairmaster.

Left alone, Jimmy lowers his voice, his breath brushing over my cheek.

“Listen, I think we should cool things off. They’re getting pretty intense.”

Jesus. Well, that was a given. Grady’s going to be in the room with us. Only… I had a six-foot-two blond reason for putting a halt to our sex sessions. What was Jimmy’s reason? Intense? Intense is good.
