As the evening turned to night, and people began to drink heavily, Noel felt as if the air was charged with danger. Possibly it was the sense of the casino being invaded by armed men and a high-roller, but people seemed angry tonight. It was Sunday. Maybe they were frustrated over going back to work tomorrow after losing money all weekend. Who knew?

Noel heard someone calling for backup over his walkie. He began jogging, Wyatt keeping up.

He spotted two of his men in a physical fight with a group of drunken twenty-year-olds. Noel grabbed one in a chokehold and pulled him off the back of his guard, throwing him out of the casino. Then someone yelled, ‘Gun!’

Noel drew his weapon, aimed, and narrowed his site on the armed gunman. His men were shouting commands, “Drop it! Down on your knees!”

Noel stepped closer so the gunman spotted him in the chaos. Noel snarled and cocked the slide of his pistol. “You’re dead.” He pointed the barrel within feet of the man’s face.

The man’s eyes went wide and he dropped the gun, holding up his hands.

He was tackled by four security guards and handcuffed.

Noel kept his gun pointed at the man until he was rendered harmless, then he lowered it and did a complete scan of the area to see if this was the only armed suspect. Noel holstered his gun as he heard one of his men call for police aid.

Noel searched for Wyatt.

Wyatt was standing near a slot machine looking stunned.

Noel approached him. “It’s okay. It’s done.”

“You. You…”

Noel laughed. “He was chicken shit. Stop looking so terrified.”

“But.”

Noel laughed and nudged him. “Let’s go. They’ve got it.”

Wyatt stared up at him with wide blue eyes. “You’re seriously one scary dude!”

“Nah. I’m a pussycat. You know that.”

“Holy shit.”

“All right.” Noel laughed. “Don’t get all sappy on me.”

“I’m glad you’re on my side.”

Noel gave him a playful punch in the arm. “You don’t get these frat boys. They’re all bravado and no substance. They come face to face with a real threat and they wet themselves.”

“I think he did. Seriously, Noel. I think he peed his pants.”

Noel chuckled and kept walking.

“Do you think that was someone out to get this VIP?”

“I don’t know. But you can see he didn’t get very far.”

“Huh.”

Noel kept walking his usual route, around the slots and looking into the bars. His walkie-talkie was a mass of chatter, but no one seeking help again, yet.

Then he spotted something; a long parade of men in dark suits walking down the back corridor. He held Wyatt back and they stood still as the VIP was escorted to the poker room.

Noel got a look at the man, and had no idea who he was. He didn’t think he would. He was dressed immaculately and had shiny designer shoes and gold rings on his fingers.

His army stopped at the poker room entrance and waited.

The VIP was the first in, and scantily clad women were there to serve him food and beverages. One of his men lit this VIP’s cigar as he made himself comfortable at the table.
