The above conditions were laid down for an aircraft operating with an all-up weight at take-off of 35,000lb/1,588kg, with fuel allowances laid by SBAC:

• Three minutes at maximum tip-jet power for take-off and landing.

• Twenty minutes standoff in gyroplane regime.

• 1.5 per cent allowance on fuel used.

• 5 per cent allowance on fuel carried.

Work carried out with XE521, which included the London-Brussels-Paris flight, and the single-engine landings demonstrations, all with the lower-powered N.E.L.3 engines, gave confidence that the desired performance criteria could be met.
