Remember those designer workout clothes? Well, there was plenty of footwear to go with those outfits.

Different styles of tennis and running shoes had come out in the seventies. By the eighties, there were lots of choices. There were different styles for tennis and basketball. There were aerobics shoes. These were brands like Adidas, Nike, Fila, Puma, and Reebok.

Some came up high on the ankle. These were known as high-top styles. The sneakers came in a variety of colors and trims. Some were more for fashion than they were for the gym.

Celebrities from sports stars to musicians had them on their feet. Rock stars Mick Jagger and David Bowie wore them in the “Dancing in the Street” music video. Whether one was watching TV or walking down the street, designer sneakers were a familiar sight in the 1980s.
