JOE

I step out and do a quick sweep of the area. The executive suite is all but abandoned, and I take the liberty of telling Sherry to go home for the evening.

She looks between me and the door to the boardroom, a smile playing on her lips. “Security’s on a precise rotation. They come through here at eight and thirty-eight past the hour, like clockwork. Do with that information what you will.”

My eyebrows hit my hairline, and she pushes my shoulder. “I knew from the second you stood up at that stupid meeting that things were going to change. But I didn’t know if it was a good or a bad thing.”

“And?”

“It’s good, Joe. You’re good for him.”

I’m pleased by her assessment but don’t want her to get it twisted. “Hey, we’re just—”

She shakes her head as she holds up a hand. “I don’t want the details, Joe. I’m just telling you what I’m seeing.” She gathers her things, then heads toward the exit, tossing over her shoulder, “And for what it’s worth, he’s good for you too.”

Sweeping into the elevator, she turns and sends me a wink, tapping her wrist as the doors close.

I take a deep breath, letting it out slowly. A part of me wants to deny the gravity of her words, but there’s a lightness in my chest, and I want more of that.

Slipping back into his office, I close the door most of the way, stopping just shy of letting the latch click. I walk up to Rand and dip my fingers into his back pocket as I pull him toward me.

“Hey.”

“Hi.” His response is adorably shy. “She knows what we’re doing in here, doesn’t she?”

“Well, I told her to go home, and she gave me the security guard schedule, so…”

Ducking his chin, he rubs his forehead. “Fuck, that is so embarrassing.”

I know he’s telling the truth because he’s beginning to tent his pants. I do love this little kink of his.

“Hey,” I say, palming his cheek, directing him to look at me. “How careful do I need to be around security staff and Grayson?”

He takes a big breath like someone about to leap off a cliff into unknown waters. “Grayson busted me looking at your ass yesterday, so the cat’s already out of the bag there. I would never hide anything so important from Edgerton or his team, but I don’t trust building security—here or in my residence—to keep my confidences.”

“Good to know.”

I bring him in for soft kisses, knowing they’re not nearly what he wants. When he starts to whine, I lean in and whisper in his ear, “I’d first like to bend you to my will for a little bit since it seems almost everyone here already knows what I’m doing to you anyway.” He glares at me, and I wink back. “Second, since time is tight, I’ll wait till we get back to the penthouse to make up for all the dirty things you’re going to do for me. Both of those things okay?”

Rand’s breath is shaky as he nods his head.
