These funky bead-embroidered earrings were inspired by the vintage Egyptian motif cabochons. Not only are they a nod to Steve Martin’s comedic song about the ruler, but they contain a history lesson as well. The discovery of King Tutankhamen’s tomb in 1922 launched a revival in all things Egyptian, including jewelry and beads. Czech manufacturers began producing all kinds of cool beads and cabochons with Egyptian themes. I chose a color palette to go with the rich gold and lapis seen in much of Egyptian art history.
