End of Part the First
PART THE SECOND
HIS second part is addressed to those, who have no legal or exterior authority, but who may be said to have an interior power arising from the affection of the person, with whom they are connected. This power, if properly used for the torment of those whose affections you have gained, will be found strong enough greatly to overbalance any exterior power; and is indeed so effectual for the purpose I recommend, that in the case of the husband no one carried this sport very far, but by dropping his marital authority, and teasing his wife through her real love and regard for him.
A few of the connections only are taken in this second division; and we will begin with that of the lover, as in the following chapter.
