Chapter Seven
Trent wasn’t sure how to react to being human again. Sitting with his new family, talking to them was new and yet old. For the last week, Trent followed all of these people around, learning, listening, and getting to know them even if he’d been unable to talk to them.
Blake worked at his desk for the first part of the day, then he became restless and began to wander. He would go and see Ian, then wander the halls to find his brother and sister to talk to them about what was new about the information from the search for Chase.
Bria worked constantly in her lab and office, there were some strange things going on around the Stratum, unexplained illnesses unless brought in from another Stratum. She was starting to get frustrated. Trent just listened and responded occasionally to her rants. He was beginning to understand how each of them had their own special powers. It was crazy as he watched Ryker come into the lab, and Bria scream when he messed around with her stuff. This was the type of family he had always dreamed about. As he watched, it made him want to be a part of this more and more.
Sasha was a hard ass bitch, and he loved her. She worked the entire week on finding missing coins used for transport, and finding out where transport doors were opening up where they shouldn’t be. There were many of them unfortunately. Sasha pinpointed about thirty places that unauthorized doorways were open. The Wizards, Warlocks, or Witches, who had the coin that was being used, turned up missing or dead. She was getting pissed about the situation.
Ryker talked to him about the Stratum, along with Ian. Trent knew pretty much all he had to in order to live here. It was a bit more complicated than he first thought. There was a war brewing and the tension in the palace was beginning to get to everyone. However, it allowed Trent to become familiar with all the things in the Stratum he needed to know about.
Logan trained with his Guards daily. They were all great, and accepted Trent without question. When he finally changed back, not only would he be Ian’s Second in the Education Department, Trent would also be part of the Guards leadership. Logan sat patiently everyday explaining about his people and also the segments of Guards over the Stratum. They were like the Human police, each territory or area had their own substation. Logan spent most of his days working to get the newest training and weapons to the outer lying stations.
Sasha pinpointed at least one place in the outer edge of the Stratum that illegal entrances were being opened. Logan was preparing to send someone to the area. They were hoping to find where the doorway was opening and then close it for good. Sasha explained that once a doorway was open, people could use it when they wanted, if they had a coin. Many of the providences had one doorway they used.
