The first problem Nancy had to overcome was the fact that the prisoner’s door was always guarded by one of Mr. Riker’s firemen. The guy was armed, but from what Nancy had heard from Mrs. Riker, the guard currently on duty was one of the only single firefighter from the station.

He was still old, middle-aged even, but Nancy had seen him looking at her. Most guys looked at her, and she had learned to read the stares. While she might have only been in high school, she already had a good understanding of what most men wanted, and what most men fantasized about doing with her.

Despite some of the rumors at school, Nancy had never been someone who had been promiscuous. She wasn’t a virgin, but she also didn’t sleep with half of the varsity football team, not that anyone actually believed her. Nancy had always been more guarded in that respect, but she knew how to use her womanly charms, even though she was still very much a girl.

“Hey,” Nancy said, smiling at the firefighter who had pretended not to notice her when she walked into the mess hall, but what guys didn’t realize was that girls always knew they were being watched.

“Hey.” Carl Foster was a shorter guy, but he was stocky. He wasn’t ugly, but Nancy wouldn’t have classified him as hot either. He was pretty plain, but the muscles and clean cut look made him appear more attractive than he really was.

Nancy walked over to him, never breaking eye contact, and she watched the sweat break out on his face. “Mrs. Riker told me to come and get you. She said she needed to speak to you about something—Oh my god, is that real?” She gestured to the weapon.

Carl glanced down at the weapon and laughed. “Yeah. It’s real.”

“I’ve never been so close to one before,” Nancy intentionally moved closer. “Can I hold it?”

“Yeah, lemme just turn the safety on,” Carl answered. “I always keep it off because you never know what you’re going to encounter on a job like this. It’s pretty dangerous.”

“I bet,” Nancy said, still acting impressed.

Nancy fumbled the weapon awkwardly in her hands, and it wasn’t a show. She legitimately didn’t know how to handle the weapon. But it worked to her advantage as Carl stepped from behind her, moving close, but not too close, to show her how to hold the rifle.

“You want to keep the stock tucked snug against your shoulder,” he said, gently readjusting her arms so the weapon would be easier to handle. “And you only want to put your finger on the trigger when you’re going to shoot.”

Nancy nodded, her arms already burning from the weight of the gun, and then she faked dropping it, which caused Carl to snatch it up and allowed Nancy to casually brush her hand against his right hip, snatching the keys to the prisoner’s door.

“Whoa,” Carl said, laughing.

“Sorry,” Nancy replied, pocketing the key before he noticed. “I guess I’m not as strong as I thought I was.
