CHAPTER 7
After breakfast and a short walk with Ted, I returned to my room and dug out the brochure I had that told about the hotelâs facilities. After speaking with Tom, the manager, yesterday, about the dancing and how I found such enjoyment when dancing I had started giving more thought to the dancing opportunities customers had at the hotel. I had all but ignored the dance tutoring side of the hotelâs activities when I first arrived, thinking only of coming to the hotel for the opportunity of getting away from my worries and relaxing. Looking through the brochure I saw that one of the hotelâs âHolidays with dancingâ options was to do one of their week long intense courses in dancing, learning Ballroom, these lasted four hours a day at twenty five pounds a day starting on Saturdays until Friday, when all the dance students would show off what they had learnt on the last day in the evening with ballroom dancing lasting an hour in the evening for the students, with a âdance-offâ competition for fun only. I realised that this second week had already started, it was Sunday. The Dance classes should really have been booked ahead when the rooms were booked. I would probably have to pay the full amount if the discount with the room was not considered, a full one hundred and seventy-five pounds, a lot to pay on the spur of the moment.
I decided to speak with Ted about my sudden decision. It occurred to me also that to do the dancing course may require me to do it with a partner. Would Ted want to do a dancing course, especially at such a cost at short notice. I was relieved to find him still in his room, he did not seem to spend much time there, preferring to go on all the outings.
âItâs a very sudden decision,â Ted said surprised, âit may be too late already. But I think itâs a good idea, you came here to try and relax and escape from your stresses and I think that is a good way to do it. I never thought you would want to take up learning to do ballroom dancing, you seemed too exhausted.â
âWell, letâs go down to reception and see if itâs possible to join the classes,â I said keen to find out.
The lady at the reception desk seemed nonplussed about my enquiry about joining the dance classes. âWe donât do bookings for the classes on their own here; they are arranged ahead when the rooms are booked,â the receptionist said.
âMaybe I can speak with the instructor,â I said to the receptionist, âIâm sure there must be occasions when people decide they want to do the classes after theyâve arrived.â
The receptionist looked doubtful, âIâll see if I can find a number for her and you can try calling her.â The receptionist turned to her monitor to look through the hotel staff directory but was not able to find a contact record for the dance instructor.
