CHAPTER SIXTEEN

HUNTLEY

Where was Chrys?

I had gone back to my room to change, as I didn’t have any cool, snappy powers to change like Pothos did. He offered to change my shirt for me, but that always felt weird to me. Also, I didn’t trust that he would pick a shirt I liked. And I wanted to walk around a bit.

As I tried to clear my head, I worried about Chrys. They had gotten up to earth before we did, and we had to travel all the way back. Why wasn’t she back yet? Pothos had mentioned gods couldn’t snap to places in the water due to the currents and something about Poseidon. I supposed it was the same in Olympus and the underworld, so it made sense. But still, I didn’t like having to wait.

I also didn’t like being around all these gods without her. I felt that I didn’t belong, and at least with her, I could hide behind her. I tried doing that with Hades, and he simply gave me a look. No, it was too awkward. There was always Persephone, as she liked me, but again, awkward.

At least I had Pothos, but I felt bad hiding behind him when he was dealing with his own problems. His brother had been eaten by Kronos. I supposed it was better than being dead, as he could still be saved, but still. I had no idea what kind of agony he was going through currently. I wondered if it was like all the stories of whales eating people or if it was like they were in darkness, like a pit. If it was anything like Tartarus, it would more than likely be the latter. Either way, it wouldn’t be fun and we needed to do something about it.

I got to Chrys’s and my bedroom and grabbed a new black tee and threw the other one in the sink to deal with later. I sighed as I peered over at Chrys’s setup. She would be okay—she had to be. It was normal to take longer. Not much time had passed either way. She would be fine. I took a deep breath and headed back to where all the gods were.

As I made my way through the hallway, I found Hades pinching the bridge of his nose. That was his typical stressed-out look. I wondered what part of all this madness he was stressed out about the most. Chrys still not returning, Kronos destroying everything, Aether taking over Olympus, Tartarus not having a lock, or if it was because all these gods were in their domain, causing problems. I had a feeling it was a little bit of everything.

I tried to sneak past, as it didn’t appear he wanted to be bothered, when he opened his eyes.

“Oh, Huntley, it’s you.” He let out a sigh. “I was worried it was one of them. Or worse, Zeus.”

“Just me. I had to change my shirt because of Ares’s blood and all that.”

“I’m surprise it wasn’t your blood.
