Chapter 12

THE EFFECT THESE WATERS had on me was nothing short of miraculous. Not only had my energy returned, but I felt my spirits lifting as well. This was what I always imagined soaking in a bath of liquid Prozac might be like. Or possibly an IV drip filled with a fine cocktail of sports drinks...and cocaine.

Now fully revitalized, yet completely relaxed at the same time, I leaned my head back against the stone base and closed my eyes when... “The fuck is that?” I muttered softly as I sat back up. It felt like my legs were being kissed or something. I peered down through the clear water and saw what looked like little tadpoles nipping at my legs.

“Oh shit!” I stood up in all my naked glory and began swiping at my legs. “The fuck are those?”

Neia threw back her head and laughed at my panic. “You only noticed them now?” I stopped smacking my thighs and gave her a look. Ilenia still had her eyes closed, but her tight-lipped smile more than assured me she was listening in.

“Isaac, those are seepers,” Neia continued as she gestured down to her legs. Sure enough, those little black creatures were swimming around her too. “You know, as in seeping waters? There is nothing special about the water itself. But its high mineral content and warm temperature make for the perfect environment for seepers to thrive. Here, look...”

I slowly sank back down into the water and watched. These seepers kissed at her skin with soft pecks, and each time they pulled away, I saw a thin line of oily black trailing from her skin to their mouths. Then the smoky lines disappeared, sucked down like spaghetti noodles. Then they swam back up to her legs and did it again.

“There, you see? The seepers suck the toxins from your body right through the skin. Contaminates, even things like negative thoughts, they remove any toxic energy in all its forms. What is poison to us is food to them.” She sat up and glanced over at Ilenia. “See, I told you Isaac loved being sucked on.” Her eyes remained closed, but her tight smile flared open into a toothy grin.

“No arguments here.” I shifted closer to her and rested my hand on her inner thigh. “You know, since we’ve both gained our strength back, are you feeling up to the task of—”

“Ah!” Neia shrieked as she stood up out of the water. Now that seemed like a bit of an overreaction to me. She could have just told me she had a headache or some other classic excuse to get out of sex. Suddenly, Ilenia jumped up with a shriek as well. What the hell is going with these ladies? Had I suddenly become repulsive or something? “Isaac!” Neia pointed down into the water at my legs.

The lines the seepers were pulling from my legs were not dark and shadowy like theirs, but light blue. It didn’t seem to make much difference to the seepers as they continued to chow down.
