Some Principal Points of Politeness
â¢If invited to a dinner, a lady or gentleman would have responded without delay.
â¢Responses to invitations would have been addressed to the lady of the house.
â¢Punctuality was of the utmost importance.
â¢As a general rule, the guests would have proceeded to the dining room following the order of precedence.
â¢Whilst dining customs changed throughout the century, some basic manners included eating with oneâs mouth closed and not racing through oneâs dinner.
â¢It was polite to pay a call or leave a card soon after the dinner.
