Miku slipped through the door to Ms. Brownâs former classroom and pulled the shade down over the window. She pressed her back to the door and shut her eyes. What she had in mind was dangerous; if she was caught, sheâd be suspended for sure. Maybe even expelled. And how her parents would love that. However, Miku took a deep breath and stifled those thoughts because sheâd come too far to stop now. A moment later there was a light knock at the door. Miku cracked it, saw Tessa, and gestured her inside. The two silently waited for the sound of foot traffic outside to quiet as students made their way to their fourth-period classes. A moment later, Raji arrived.
âSo what are weââ he said, making the other two jump slightly.
âShh,â Miku hushed, a finger over her lips. âIâm going to use Ms. Brownâs headset to sneak around the high-security VR.â
Tessa and Raji stared at her, dumbfounded.
âMiku, this is the worstââ Tessa started.
âIâm in!â Raji said before quickly making his way to Ms. Brownâs desk to pull out the heavier, teacher-sized headset.
âYou two, stop!â Tessa said in an urgent whisper. âThis is no joke. If weâre caught, itâs suspension. For all of us.â
âTessa, I know,â Miku said, âand if you want to leave, Iâll understand. Weâre breaking the rules, and I have to do this, but you donât.â
Tessa considered a moment and folded her arms. âIâll stay. Just hurry!â
âWhatâre you gonna do in there?â Raji whispered excitedly.
âI need evidence,â Miku said, taking the helmet from Raji and looking it over. âAnd teachers have advanced privileges in VR, so I might be able to learn something. Wish me luck!â And then, without waiting for their response, Miku plunked the helmet onto her head and fired up the VR staging environment.
