They watched as the crimson reddish sun sank over the horizon. It was time to find a place to have a few beers. They drove down the second of the two streets that made up Chong Mek, looking for something that was still open. After stumbling upon a karaoke bar, they sat sipping a beer each while the staff set things up for the evening.

“Would you like to eat, Mr?” one lady asked them some time after eight.

“Sure,” replied Tom.

“Here’s menus.”

“Thanks,” he said as she handed them a menu each.

Beef stew looked a pretty good pick and they both settled for that. The meat and rice noodles were drenched in a thick tasty broth topped with green aromatic leaves and bean sprouts.
