Haldirian rode out of the main city, heading up the sloping hills to the sea cliffs until he spotted Aláenor. She had her back turned to him, arms crossed and glaring out across the sea in the early morning light. Her hair was free from its braid, the golden strands flying high in the breeze like small slivers of sunlight. She didn't move or say anything as he joined her to watch the crashing waves.

"I knew someone would come looking for me eventually," she whispered, not taking her gaze off the ocean.

"I wanted to see how you were doing," Haldirian said turning toward her. "We haven't had any privacy to talk in the last few days.

"You worry way too much, little prince. It isn't healthy."

"You worry more than I do," he replied. "You've just learned to hide it better. I know you aren't coping as well as you are pretending." She turned and fixed him with her golden eyes.

"Let me worry about my own business, Haldirian. I'll tell you when I'm not coping," she replied coldly. He didn't want to push her. If he did, she would probably shove him off the cliff.

"The ocean is beautiful," he said and looked back out over the water.

"Yes, it is. It's a shame I didn't see the sunrise this morning."

"I was with Eóden down at the docks. Viktor said that we could be ready to leave by tomorrow."

"Good. I want to go and get this over and done with. I hate all of this mystery and not knowing what forces are moving against us."

"I suppose the uneasiness has become worse now because we know your dreams are more than just dreams. Your eyes are proof that Mordecai wields true magic."

"They aren't burning anymore. I just want to know what it all means. You are not supposed to have her eyes... what the hell was Mordecai talking about?" Aláenor murmured.

"Do you know who he was referring to?"

"If I knew I wouldn't be up here trying to figure it out would I?" she snapped.

Haldirian's frustration flared, so he turned and remounted Blán. "You seem to be convinced that you're the only one that's meant to carry this burden. I want to help you, I want you to trust me, but I can't do that until you let me. If you let Mordecai isolate you from everyone who cares about you then he's already won."

When Haldirian reached Eóden's hall, the others were awake and down at the docks helping gather the provisions.

It grew hot as the day wore on and Liana made sure they had plenty of cool ale and food to keep them going. Haldirian didn't talk to Aláenor for the rest of the day. He caught her looking at him a few times as if she wanted to say something but always held back.

She's made it clear she wants you to leave her alone, Haldirian said to himself, but he didn't feel any better about it.

In the afternoon, Eeilos and Lindon started a water fight and brought the others into it.
