Chapter 15

Fiona's fingers drummed against the worn table as she glanced at Levi, her hazel eyes reflecting the flickering glow of the nearby candle. "We need to get into Martin's study," she said with urgency. "There must be something there that could help us."

Levi leaned back in his chair, blue eyes locked on Fiona's face. He ran a hand through his black hair before responding, his sarcastic smile nowhere in sight. "Breaking and entering? I knew you had a wild side, Byrne."

"Levi, this isn't a joke," Fiona snapped, her frustration evident. Her mind was a swarm of lycanthropy cases, patterns, and questions about the killer's identity.

"All right, all right," Levi conceded, holding up his hands in surrender. "I know a few spells that could help us avoid detection. And since it seems to have turned completely into night, I’d say we go now.”

Fiona rolled her eyes at him. “Very observant. Let’s go.”

Together, they made their way through the darkened streets of Archer's Hollow, the sound of their footsteps swallowed by the silence around them. As they approached Martin's house, Levi whispered an incantation, cloaking them in a layer of magic that would keep prying eyes at bay.

"Remember," he cautioned, "stay close to me. The spell has a limited range."

Once inside, Fiona found herself struck by the oppressive atmosphere of the house. It felt as though the very air was heavy with secrets, weighing down on her shoulders. She shook off the sensation and turned to Levi.

"Where's his study?"

"Upstairs, second door on the right," he whispered, pointing towards the grand staircase looming before them.

With careful steps, they ascended, each creak of the wooden floor beneath them sending a shiver down Fiona's spine. Reaching the door, she hesitated for a moment before reaching for the handle.

The door swung open, revealing the dimly lit room beyond. Fiona stepped into the study, her eyes adjusting to the dim light as she scanned the room for any sign of disturbance. The air was heavy with the scent of old books and dust, a testament to Martin's long-standing interest in the arcane. As she walked deeper into the room, her fingers brushed against the spines of leather-bound volumes that lined the bookshelves, each one screaming to be explored.

"Alright," Fiona whispered, feeling the familiar itch of curiosity tingling at her fingertips. "Time to see what you've been hiding, Martin."

"Be careful," Levi cautioned from behind her, his voice soft yet firm. "We don't want to leave any traces of our presence."

"Of course." She nodded. Her hands moved with precision as she began to examine the artifacts scattered throughout the room, strange objects and symbols that hinted at a world beyond the ordinary.

As she searched, Fiona's mind raced with thoughts of what these relics might reveal about Martin and his intentions. There had always been an air of mystery surrounding him, and now it seemed that they were on the verge of uncovering the truth behind his dark pursuits.

"Levi, look at this," Fiona called out, her voice hushed but urgent.
