Chapter Twenty-Four

A Week of Bliss and Power Leveling

Ty woke in the sunlight, his mouth cotton, his wrist covered in his own drool where his hand stuck out from under the pillow. The sunlight was clearly dawn, half-light, half-dark. Although it seemed too reddish to him, somehow.

His last memory was of laying himself down and Ivy starting to touch him. Did I forget having sex? Did I fall asleep for an hour?

Ty groggily glanced around and didn’t see Ivy anywhere. Weird. Although I’m not going to panic like last time.

Ty got up and put his robes on, then opened the door.

Immediately, the smell of spices hit him. Someone was cooking.

Ty walked to his kitchen, following his nose. When he entered, he found Dalryn and his sister, Val, sitting at the table on a bench next to each other, eating a pile of sad grapes. They were talking to each other, with Dalryn gesturing wildly and his sister looking amused.

A quick around glance showed Ivy at the fire, teaching Forli how to fry potatoes and make sugar-coated apples as well. They couldn’t look more different—the thin, almost boyish Ivy with her pale skin and long, metallic-copper hair next to the short, curvy, spiked-needle hair and pine-wood skin Forli. But Ty enjoyed the sight of both of them—especially since they were smiling and laughing together.

“Potatoes for breakfast?” Ty asked.

His sister exploded into laughter. “Breakfast? You slept for twelve hours, Ty. It’s easily suppertime.”

Ty glanced over at Ivy, who nodded her head in confirmation. “We, um, started to—”

“Hey!” Dalryn barked out.

Ivy blushed. “You fell asleep immediately. Must’ve been a day, huh?”

“Well, yesterday I did a dungeon run, almost got murdered by wolves, met your dad, who threw us all from the house, was woken by my sister finding a hobo in her bed—”

“Hey!” Dalryn barked again, and everyone laughed.

“—and then I had to coordinate a significant portion of a thousand new citizens arriving. I earned some rest.”

Ivy smiled. “Well, I got our dungeon time switched—Kadrath was hesitant to allow it since I’m not the group leader, but he knows we’re together, and I found a group willing to trade times in return for an extra silver. So eat up—we’re due for a run in about three hours. Also, I’m teaching Forli to cook, since she’ll be staying with us from now on—you need to go buy two sets of furniture for the empty guest rooms. Forli agreed that instead of rent, she’ll pay with cooking, cleaning, and other chores.”

Wow… I suppose it’s a good thing that I’ve suddenly got a girl taking care of everything for me, and she can’t be too upset if Forli is going to continue to stay with us… but I feel a bit cut out of the loop of my own life.

Some of his thoughts must have shown on his face, because his sister threw a grape at him. “The response here, brother mine, is ‘Thank you, my wonderful dear, for taking care of me so well.”

“Thank you, my
