Anaokapo
The day passed by in a whirlwind of activities. My face hurt from all the smiling and laughter.
I touched my face as the warm water rained down my body in the shower. Is this what happiness feels like? I asked myself. Strong arms wrapped around me from behind. Noaâs trimmed beard scratched along my shoulder in the most delicious way. His lips kissed away the burn.
âWhat are you doing?â One of his hands reached up to cup my hand. It was still on my face, tracing the curves of my smile.
âI havenât smiled this much in a long time,â I answered quietly. He hummed and hugged me tighter then kissed my neck. He pulled back and continued washing me as I relaxed back into his arms.
âYou should start getting used to that,â he said pointedly. His words bordered on being a command but it didnât make me bristle. He said it with such self-assured confidence that it made believing anything else seem foolish.
âOk,â I breathed. Noa turned my face over my shoulder so he could look me in the eyes. Whatever he saw there, maybe the fragile hope I felt in my chest or the beginnings my love for him, made his face practically glow with joy.
âGood,â he sealed his words with a quick kiss that had me giggling at his silliness. We were showering because Noa had saved the best for last: Lokrum Island. The waters of the Adriatic Sea were nothing like the Pacific Ocean that surrounded my homeland, but it was stunning in itâs own way.
The water was a wash of turquoises, teals, emeralds, and sapphires. It was so wholly unlike the crystalline and deep blues of Hawaii. I would have run straight down to the water, but Noa promised it would be better to see the city first. I trusted him.
He understood how invaluable time was to me. He knew why I wanted to do what I wanted, but he never let me enjoy less when I could have more. We finished up and stepped out of the shower. Using my darkness I took all the excess water off of our bodies, drying us. He gasped then pouted at me when I winked at him.
âNow I donât have the fun of drying you,â he kept up his exaggerated pout and I couldnât help but smile and pepper him with kisses until he laughed and held my face in his hands. âNext time let me enjoy it, itâs not like you have to take showers, Ana.â
He booped me on the nose and I laughed as we left the bathroom. Packages and bags were everywhere. When I had returned in the morning to our hotel room I found not only Noa waiting with a smile and an assortment of delicious food but also a veritable mountain of new clothes and accessories. He had even purchased two suitcases with matching garment bags.
Showing up with a duffle bag filled with tens of thousands of euros only made him suggest I buy a home.
