3. LEVERAGE A LEAN ORGANISATION

Most people and many entrepreneurs believe that companies need to have infrastructure, people, offices. Number of employees or factories is a measure of the success or importance of the company. Big equals strong. A company that you cannot see is not credible. “I’ll believe it when I see it,” is deeply ingrained in the human psyche. If you are a quantum physicist you understand the silliness in that.

Perhaps in the past this certainly held true but in the new world we live in there are new models of organising and delivering economic value. In a knowledge economy, you only need a core high performance team to deliver a knowledge based business at speed. I discovered this by necessity and then it became the way I naturally tended to form companies. Now it is one of my key design criteria. If I can’t deliver it LEAN, then it is not an opportunity I am attracted to.
