What You Should Know Before Reading This Book

Before you get started reading this book, you should probably make sure your expectations are realistic. It is unlikely for you to become a masterful professional artist overnight. Art, like everything else, takes practice and dedication if you want to get better. But what you are going to learn from this book are tools that will help you succeed!

Learning the tricks that every professional artist is likely to apply to make their pictures amazing will help you to build a solid foundation that will vault you to a level of drawing that you may never have imagined possible for yourself. And, with practice every day, there is nothing stopping you from achieving your full artistic potential. Practice makes perfect!

Although that's the other thing you should know before reading this book – there is really no such thing as “perfect” art. Nothing actually exists to judge any work of art as perfect or imperfect except the artist, and even then, it's iffy. Nobody can say a work of art is flawed or isn't flawed, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. People who are overly critical of someone else's art are generally insecure about their own abilities and want to bring others down to lift themselves. It's a cheap trick, but that doesn't mean they won't resort to it.

So take criticism with a grain of salt. If you love your art and love the fact that you can keep improving it, then who cares what other people say about it? It's your creation, and although sharing it with others can be sensitive and painful if you feel judged, the fact is you were brave enough to pursue it and share it in the first place, and that in itself has a greater value than any criticism you could ever receive. Enjoy your art, that's what it's there for!
