Chapter Six

I drove the golf cart down the road to the unicorn ranch while Glory sat in the passenger seat, hugging the unicorn. The unicorn kept making little neighing noises and kicking her hooves.

“Is she scared of the golf cart ride or excited?” I asked Glory.

“I think she’s upset she’s going home and the fun is over,” Glory said.

The ranch’s gateway sign read ‘Lythewen Acres’ and was painted mint green and had wooden cutouts of unicorns on each side. I drove under it, heading to the main barn. Glory had already made a quick phone call to let them know we were coming, so we were greeted by three elven women.

The elven ranchers were clearly related, as they were all tall and willowy with similar delicate featured faces. Two of them had platinum blonde hair, while the third was a strawberry blonde. They were wearing nearly identical outfits of fitted khaki pants and white blouses. The one who approached seemed to be the oldest, she looked like she was around fifty and had some grey strands in her blonde hair, while the two younger elves appeared to be in their twenties. The elder elven woman held her arms out for the unicorn and Glory carefully handed her over. The woman briefly inspected the foal before turning to walk over to the fenced in pasture and depositing the unicorn back into the enclosure, where she was greeted by two adult unicorns.

I watched in awe as the majestic animals, presumably the baby’s parents, nuzzled the little unicorn. The foal had given off a powerful aura, but the otherworldly presence of the adults was even greater.

“You can see them?” one of the younger elves asked.

“Yes, he can see them,” Glory confirmed. “This is my boyfriend, by the way: Dennis. Dennis, this is Elder Metia, caretaker of the Kailanorian unicorns, and her two nieces, Kestia and Lorenia.”

Each of the elves nodded in turn.

“I did not know you had found a mate, Glorka. Congratulations on your pairing,” the elf named Kestia said. Her green eyes wandered over me, and I felt like I was being meticulously assessed. And did she just call Glory Glorka?

“We were going to stop by soon, for introductions,” Glory said.

“Yes, well, clearly your relationship is new, and you haven’t mated yet,” Elder Metia said. “We thank you for returning our young charge. Again. Iva is a feisty one. She has managed to get through five of our enclosure spells now.”

“They are not as powerful as they would have been back home,” Lorenia said.

If I had to guess, Lorenia was the youngest of the two sisters. She was a little shorter than the other two women and wore her strawberry blonde hair in a long braid, while her sister wore her blonde hair loose, and the elder elf had secured her hair in a conservative bun.

“Would you like a tour before you begin copulating?” Elder Metia asked.

“Dennis?” Glory said, looking at me. “Would you like a tour before…?”

A small smile played on her lips, but for once she wasn’t blushing.
