Liver Parsley Treats

½ cup freeze-dried liver (Available at pet-supply stores)

2 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped or 1 Tbsp dried parsley

2 cups whole wheat flour

½ cup wheat germ

1⁄3 cup water

3 Tbsp vegetable oil

1 egg

Place the liver cubes in a blender, and blend to a powder. In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients. Knead the dough on a floured surface. Roll out the dough to ½-inch thickness, and cut out shapes with a cookie cutter. Put the cookies on a baking sheet, ½ inch apart. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 17 minutes. When done, the treats should be firm to the touch. Turn the oven off, and leave the treats in for 1 to 2 hours to harden.

Yield: Approximately 40 two-inch treats

Cheddar Cheese Sticks

2 cups whole wheat flour

½ tsp baking powder

½ cup low-fat cheddar cheese, shredded

¼ cup vegetable oil

1⁄3 cup water

In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients. Knead the dough on a floured surface until firm. Roll out the dough to ¼-inch thickness. Cut into ½- by 2-inch strips. Put the cookies on a baking sheet, ½ inch apart. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. When done, the sticks should be golden brown and firm to the touch. Turn the oven off, and leave the sticks in for 1 to 2 hours to harden.

Yield: Approximately 40 two-inch sticks
