On most of the other items (Tables 7.20–7.33), the one-to-two-roomers are, not unexpectedly, likely to manifest characteristics that reflect their possessing less economic means than the general population. Specifically, in relative terms, one-to-two-roomers are (a) more likely to believe that “successful people look down on the less successful ones”; (b) less likely to indicate that they are “proud to be a Singaporean”; (c) less likely to think that “Singapore has more good points than bad points”; (d) less likely to consider Singapore as a “good place to make a living”; (e) more likely to rate their business and career prospects as “average”; (f) less optimistic about future skills upgrading; (g) less likely to be involved in or planning to enrol in skills upgrading courses; (h) less likely to feel “comfortable with using the computer”, but also less likely to perceive inadequacy in computer skills; (i) more likely to be receiving financial help from outside the household; (j) more likely to use a combination of sources of financial help — friends, relatives, and charitable organisations — from outside the household; and (k) less likely to report overall life satisfaction.
