Wooden churches
Southeastern Poland is extraordinarily rich in wooden churches, and many are in villages of the Carpathian foothills. Built by Catholic, Orthodox and Uniate communities, they are just as intricate and expressive as any brick or stone edifice. Many follow East European models, with onion domes and icon-filled interiors. The variety is due to the nature of the cosmopolitan congregations living in such close proximity.
