Mia:

We spend most of Sunday together. Ben makes breakfast, and after we eat, the three of us get in Landon’s car and head to the marina, detouring only to get me a fresh set of clothes. “I have a boat docked there,” Landon says casually. “Do you sail?”

I roll my eyes. Sailing is a hobby for rich people. Landon and Ben evidently have a lot more money than I do. “No, I don’t sail,” I say dryly.

Landon winks at me. “I’ll teach you, Mia.”

I have a great time. After spending the day on the water, we go to a great Thai place for dinner, then to a jazz bar for drinks after. It’s ten in the night by the time we get back to New Summit.

“Spend the night,” Ben says. “Please?”

“Really?” I give them a teasing look. “Two nights in a row?”

Ben shrugs. “So what? Who’s keeping track?” He gives Landon a sidelong look. “Is Sophia expecting you?”

My heart stops. Sophia? Who’s Sophia?

My expression must change because Landon chuckles. “Sophia’s my teenage sister,” he says. “And no, she’s not expecting me.”

I’m not prepared for the relief that floods my body. What the hell, Mia? I ask myself. There’s two of them. You can’t get seriously involved. Play it cool.

On Monday morning, I leave Ben’s place later than I expected. I hurry to my apartment and change my clothes quickly, then run to the store so I can be there in time for the delivery guy. These are the days when I’m really glad I don’t have a long commute to work.

Unfortunately, the first person that walks through my boutique door is Dennis. “Where were you all of yesterday?” he demands accusingly. “I stopped by at midnight, and you weren’t here.”

“So?” I give him a bland look.

“You’re seeing one of those sex doctors, aren’t you?” He gives me a disapproving look. “Do you know that people have sex in their office? They call that therapy, the sick perverts.”

“I don’t know why you keep coming around here, Dennis,” I tell him tiredly. “We’re not dating anymore. Find someone else to bother, and leave me alone.”

There’s a dark look on his face. Dennis isn’t used to me standing up to him. My sudden backbone must come as quite a surprise.
