Tears sting my eyes, but I refuse to let them fall. My nose burns with the effort to hold them in. I did this. Me.
He told me no, and I basically twisted his arm. I’m not mad about the sex. I’ve had sex with a lot of guys — some of them, I can’t even remember their names if I even knew them to begin with.
What pisses me off is that he’s been fucking my mom. I thought my mom was a Madden Novelli DieHard. I never thought she’d stab him in the back this way.
My dad, God love him, he’s fucked up. He can’t keep it in his pants for more than a day. He’s always fucked around on her. But I know how much he loves her. I thought she loved him the same. I’m so torn. It pisses me off that Mom would fuck over Dad. But at the same time, part of me understands why. We’ve never talked about any of this, but I can tell the difference in what my mom and dad have compared to what other couples have. My parents, despite the level of fucked up they are, are meant to be together. He loves her. He’d die for her. I can’t imagine how upset he must be if he found out about Enzo and my mom. She loves him. She’d not only die for him, but she continues to stay with his cheating ass. If that isn’t love, I don’t know what is.
I can’t blame my mom for sleeping around because my dad does it to her. But Enzo? She had to pick Enzo? She’s always known I’ve had a thing for him. Plus, he’s her husband’s assistant. Couldn’t she have picked a random off the street like everyone else?
Yanking on my street clothes, I leave the changing room.
“Hey, where you going?” my boss, Mick, asks.
“I’m done for the night.” I stomp past him.
He grabs me by my bicep, spinning me around. “The hell you are! We’re short-handed tonight.”
I look at his hand on me and back to his beady eyes. “You, of all people, are going to put your hands on me?” My eyes widen with the question.
Suddenly, he realizes his mistake. “I’m so-sorry. I wasn’t thinking,” he stutters with contrition.
“That’s better. I’m sure Daddy wouldn’t be too happy with you if I told him you hired me to begin with.” I smile sweetly before turning and heading toward the bar.
I order a drink and take a seat. When it’s placed in front of me, I toss it back, ordering another as the burn spreads throughout my chest chipping at the ice Enzo’s confession created.
“I got this round.” A man sits down beside me. Turning, I check him out: dark hair styled to perfection, dark scruff covering his angular jaw, and tan skin. His light blue eyes shine under the flashing lights of the club. He was with my dad’s guys earlier.
“Thanks.” I grin impishly.
“No problem. I’m Ranger.”
“Harper.” I take a sip of the fresh drink placed in front of me.
