Views of paid workers in the neighbourhood

Meetings and discussions were held with a wide range of workers from voluntary and statutory agencies in the area, about their views on the needs of parents and children. There were informal meetings with individuals from a cross section of local agencies, statutory and voluntary; some were arranged as part of the development worker’s induction process, some were part of ongoing collaborative work on particular issues and projects. There were also discussions and meetings where workers were asking for information and advice from the development worker. More formal meetings also included interagency networks and groups e.g. the Henley Safe Children Project Steering Group, the local interdepartmental Family Support Group, Social Services Under 5s Managers, Community Education, Social Services. Other local childcare workers, advice centre workers, employment and women’s training networks, volunteers and workers from voluntary agencies were involved in the informal and formal groups.

This chapter gives an account of the main issues and themes identified during the meetings. These were recorded under the following headings:
