Chapter Seventeen
MARK FINISHED THE song with a flourish and wiped the sweat from his eyes before looking around at the rest of the band. Dare was chewing on the end of a pencil, looking thoughtful, while Paul was grinning from ear to ear. âDamn, I think weâve finally got it!â
Dare nodded. âI think so too, I love that ending.â
Tommy slung off his bass and placed it on its stand. Then he slid to the floor and lay his head back against the wall. âThank God, âcause we need a break and some food.â
Sionn glanced at Dare, trying to catch his eye, but Dare was jotting notes on a piece of paper. âAye, we do. How does three hours sound?â
Mark glanced down at his watch. âSo, weâll meet back around five for dinner and start practicing again at six?â
Paul nodded. âSounds good to me. Iâm gonna order pizza and then take a nap.â
âA nap sounds perfect,â Tommy said.
âAlright. How many pizzas am I ordering?â
Dare popped his head up, pencil paused mid-stroke. âNothing for me and Sionn. We were gonna go take pictures. That is, um....â His eyes found Sionnâs, looking for confirmation they were still going to go ahead with their plan.
Sionn grinned, pleased Dare had remembered. âAye, weâll have lunch in Chinatown and take some pictures there.â
âPictures?â Paul asked.
Dare nodded. âYeah. I told Sionn I thought it would be fun to go around the city and just take pictures of some of the awesome things I saw, and so we made it a date. Heâs gonna teach me how to use the DSLR.â
Mark chuckled. âAnd have plenty of opportunities to wrap his arms around you and make sure youâre using the camera correctly, Iâm sure.â
Dare blushed a little and ducked his head, which just made Mark laugh more. âOh, give it up. We hear you guys, you know. We all know he canât keep his hands off you.â
Dare glared and arched an eyebrow. âHow do you know it isnât me that canât keep my hands off him?â
Mark doubled over laughing, and even Paul and Tommy joined in.
âI think you just gave yourself away, little brother. No more blushing and acting shocked now,â Tommy quipped.
Dare laughed and shook his head. âYeah, yeah, but still. Dig your minds outta the gutter for a little while, will ya?â
âWhy?â
âYouâre incorrigible. You know that, Tommy?â
Tommy stopped laughing and scowled. âWhat the hell did you just call me?â
Dare threw his hands in the air and headed for the door, pausing beside Mark on his way out. âGet him a dictionary, will ya? Sheesh. And to think Iâm the one who didnât finish school.â
Still laughing, Dare ran for the shower, leaving Mark to deal with a frowning, confused Tommy.
âWhat the hell is an incorrigible?â
âItâs not a what,â Paul said, shaking his head. âItâs a who, and in this case that who is you.â
Tommy frowned more, and finally, Mark took pity on him. âIt means youâre a depraved, delinquent, unruly bastard whoâll never change.â
Tommyâs mouth fell open. âDamn.
