Chapter Seventeen

MARK FINISHED THE song with a flourish and wiped the sweat from his eyes before looking around at the rest of the band. Dare was chewing on the end of a pencil, looking thoughtful, while Paul was grinning from ear to ear. “Damn, I think we’ve finally got it!”

Dare nodded. “I think so too, I love that ending.”

Tommy slung off his bass and placed it on its stand. Then he slid to the floor and lay his head back against the wall. “Thank God, ’cause we need a break and some food.”

Sionn glanced at Dare, trying to catch his eye, but Dare was jotting notes on a piece of paper. “Aye, we do. How does three hours sound?”

Mark glanced down at his watch. “So, we’ll meet back around five for dinner and start practicing again at six?”

Paul nodded. “Sounds good to me. I’m gonna order pizza and then take a nap.”

“A nap sounds perfect,” Tommy said.

“Alright. How many pizzas am I ordering?”

Dare popped his head up, pencil paused mid-stroke. “Nothing for me and Sionn. We were gonna go take pictures. That is, um....” His eyes found Sionn’s, looking for confirmation they were still going to go ahead with their plan.

Sionn grinned, pleased Dare had remembered. “Aye, we’ll have lunch in Chinatown and take some pictures there.”

“Pictures?” Paul asked.

Dare nodded. “Yeah. I told Sionn I thought it would be fun to go around the city and just take pictures of some of the awesome things I saw, and so we made it a date. He’s gonna teach me how to use the DSLR.”

Mark chuckled. “And have plenty of opportunities to wrap his arms around you and make sure you’re using the camera correctly, I’m sure.”

Dare blushed a little and ducked his head, which just made Mark laugh more. “Oh, give it up. We hear you guys, you know. We all know he can’t keep his hands off you.”

Dare glared and arched an eyebrow. “How do you know it isn’t me that can’t keep my hands off him?”

Mark doubled over laughing, and even Paul and Tommy joined in.

“I think you just gave yourself away, little brother. No more blushing and acting shocked now,” Tommy quipped.

Dare laughed and shook his head. “Yeah, yeah, but still. Dig your minds outta the gutter for a little while, will ya?”

“Why?”

“You’re incorrigible. You know that, Tommy?”

Tommy stopped laughing and scowled. “What the hell did you just call me?”

Dare threw his hands in the air and headed for the door, pausing beside Mark on his way out. “Get him a dictionary, will ya? Sheesh. And to think I’m the one who didn’t finish school.”

Still laughing, Dare ran for the shower, leaving Mark to deal with a frowning, confused Tommy.

“What the hell is an incorrigible?”

“It’s not a what,” Paul said, shaking his head. “It’s a who, and in this case that who is you.”

Tommy frowned more, and finally, Mark took pity on him. “It means you’re a depraved, delinquent, unruly bastard who’ll never change.”

Tommy’s mouth fell open. “Damn.
