Shirt Variation 2: STELLA BLOUSE

For this sweet pullover version of the button-down shirt, we’ll add a pintucked bib placket, a mandarin collar, and some shirring at the front and sleeve caps. I used a lovely iridescent cotton voile for mine; pick out your own favorite lightweight woven for yours. You’ll need two pieces of paper about the size of your Basic Shirt patterns, and at least as long, plus one a few inches wider than your sleeve, and some smaller scraps.

1. MAKE THE FRONT SHIRT

Establish a line or edge at the left side of your paper, and lay the left placket edge of your front shirt pattern on this line. Trace around the pattern, and transfer the CF line onto the new pattern. Enlarge the neckline slightly by removing the ¼" SA line, so the old seam line will now be the SA line. Draw a rectangle the size you’d like (half of) your placket to be. Cut out the rectangle and set it aside (it will become the placket pattern). Add SA to the placket seam edges you just cut.
