A Royal Saudi Air Force McDonnell-Douglas F-15C Eagle approaches the refueling boom of a USAF KC-135 tanker. RSAF–USAF relations were excellent, reflecting long-standing ties. When the first USAF F-15Cs arrived at Dhahran on August 8, RSAF F-15C pilots flew CAP, allowing the Americans to rest until ready, and then took them on local-area orientation flights. There was also the “people factor:” Brig Gen Prince Turki bin Nasser – an F-15C pilot commanding King Abd al-Aziz Air Base at Dhahran and a graduate of the USAF’s Air University – formed a strong bond with Gen Horner and Brig Gen John M. McBroom, whose F-15Cs were the first Eagles into Saudi Arabia. Their personal chemistry did much to cement relations between them. (DoD)
