It isn’t practical for dental schools to introduce more business management hours into the curriculum. Dental students don’t need a master of business administration degree and, more importantly, they don’t have the time in an already overcrowded curriculum. Instead, students just need the basic tools that will allow them to understand the concepts and vocabulary of business so they can ask the appropriate questions and become demanding consumers of professional advice.

Each of the sections in the chapter introduces a basic finance concept and is written for the dentist who has no experience in business and does not have a family member in business or dentistry.
