We had a shower together, and I watched as Elsie bowed her head under the hot stream of water. I poured shampoo into my palm and tenderly worked some of it into her scalp; she leaned against me, her whole body shaking a little.

“That was good,” I said, still rubbing the shampoo into her hair.

“Sol, thank you.”

“Shh.”

“That was so good, and I don’t know what to do about it.”

“Don’t have to do anything now. Don’t have to do anything, ever.”

“This will ruin my life.”

“Elsie, you don’t have to do anything.” I kissed her cheek and rinsed the shampoo from her hair. “But for what it’s worth—I’m pretty sure that when every transmasc sees his chest bound the first time—the first thing he says is, ‘Oh, shit.’ Oh, shit, because what’s he going to do now that he knows he likes it? He can’t pretend he doesn’t anymore. I don’t know if that’s you. It sure was me.”

“This is truly full-service archiving, you know.”

“What’s really wild is that I do this for every donor. You want to lie down for a little bit? I’ll have to go home in a few hours, but I can call the Lyft, then—”

“I’ll drive you, I’ll drive you. I’m not scared.”

“Then get some rest.”
