Chapter 6
Stretching, I rolled over on the comfortable mattress and bumped right into my lover. âGood morning,â I murmured, tucking the sheet tighter around my naked body.
âMorning, Cassandra mine,â Roman replied. He swept the hair back from my face and leaned in, pressing his lips against my own. âDid you sleep well?â
âAs good as always with you by my side.â
His full lips curled upward in a grin as his fingertips drifted across my skin, pausing over my shoulder as he tugged my body closer. âI need you.â
âOh?â I asked, nuzzling my nose against his own. âI think you get your way far too often.â
Romanâs body covered mine as he moved between my thighs. âWhen it comes to you, Iâm never satisfied enough.â He kissed me again, lingering much longer than the first kiss. âI want all of you, Cassandra. Every single, little, special part.â
Something flickered in the back of my mind. A hint of worry and I blinked in response.
âWhat is it?â he asked, moving his hips against my own. âDo I arouse your desires? Your need?â
How strange to ask that way with a dark gleam in his eyes. âI, I donât know,â I answered honestly, a bit confused as I stuttered the words.
My head ached slightly, and I felt a bit off.
âAre you unwell, my beloved?â
âIâm not sure,â I admitted.
Nausea churned in my stomach and I slipped from the bed, running toward the bathroom. After becoming violently sick, I rinsed my mouth at the sink and made my way back to the bed. Roman seemed concerned. His arm slid around my shoulders as he pulled me into his embrace. A kiss was dropped on top of my head.
âWhen was the last time you had your period?â
Shocked, I couldnât seem to remember. âLast month?â
He smiled knowingly, lowering his hand over my belly. âMaybe we finally made that baby you want.â
A baby? That seemed . . . odd.
I couldnât do anything but breathe in and out for several minutes, trying to understand why my heart racing and my thoughts seemed scrambled.
âPerhaps we should make sure that it happens,â he whispered in my ear as his hand slid between my legs. âI need you.â
That was the second time he said that, his voice both seductive and alluring. I closed my eyes and tried to figure out why I felt so strangely. The need to push him away grew with intensity. I gently pushed his hand off my body and lifted my head until I could stare into his dark eyes.
âSomething isnât right.â
âWith what, Cassandra mine?â
âThis. Us. It isnât normal.â
âHow can you say that?â He tilted his head to the side. âYou love me as I love you. Weâre trying to make a baby. This is perfection.â
No, it wasnât.
âRoman,â I replied with frustration. âYouâre keeping something from me.â
He shrugged, trying to move over my body again as his large hands spread my thighs apart. âLet me in, Cassandra Howe. Let me fill you,â he begged as his lips met mine.
NO!
The word exploded in my brain and I shoved him away, scrambling from the bed.
