CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

Emily

“I told you this was a nice place,” Emily said gleefully over her shoulder as Scott and Jada followed her across the lush grounds of the Nanny Cay Resort and Marina.

With both Surf Watch and the Mariner Yacht Club compromised, a new base of operations was priority number one, and the resort fit the bill. Emily had been to the BVI on several occasions while working for Ward and Young and they had always put her up at Nanny Cay. In fact, when Emily had walked in, the manager, Cheryl, had greeted her like a long-lost friend and even handled the check-in duties herself.

With keys in hand, they trooped across the grounds and entered their rooms.

After Emily had moved her clothes from her suitcase to the dresser and had hung her dresses in the closet, she set up her laptop at the desk. Ryan merely tossed his bag on the floor and waited for her to give him some directions.

Opening the adjoining room door and stepping into Scott and Jada’s room, Emily said, “Now that we’re all settled in here, I’d like to read the file for myself. After I’m done, I want to construct a timeline from two known points, the start being when Ryan last saw Penny Macklin alive and the end point being when they found her body on the beach. We’ll work forward and backward from them.”

“Roger that,” Scott said. “What do you need me to do?”

“Go see Cheryl. Ask her if she has a whiteboard or something large we can write on.”

“Yes, ma’am,” Scott replied.

Emily brought the file into her and Ryan’s room and sat down at the table. She opened the manila folder and then looked over at her husband. “Is there anything you want to tell me or quantify before I read through this?”

Ryan shook his head. “I can provide clarification, but everything in there is what it is.”
