CRAFT EASY, QUICK, CHEAP, AND FUN HALLOWEEN COSTUMES

If you’re going to do Halloween right, you have to make an original costume. Sure you could buy one for your bumble, but that’s wasted money because next year, he’ll want to be something else. The best costumes are ingenious and upcycle common household materials.

Start with the material. A large cardboard box can be the start of many different wonderful costumes. Paint it silver, cut arm and head holes, and glue on very various wires, plastic pieces, and electronic leftovers and—voilà!—a robot! Or glue a grid of plastic cups mouth-down to one side, cut arm and head holes, and paint it all one solid primary color to turn your kiddo into a popular plastic brick.

A sheet can be a lifesaver last-minute costume: the ever-popular ghost. Just cut eyeholes. Or cut an old sheet into long strips, which can be glued together to create a classic mummy outfit. Let your imagination and the materials on hand guide you and don’t be fussy. Remember that the costume has to last only one night—and one Halloween.
