I am aching from his blows, but also from the fear I saw in my child’s eyes – both for me and for himself. He is a wicked man who uses the name of his God to punish me. He cut off my hair and made me watch as he burned my thick braid on the fire. He knows I will take the blows for our child, and he uses this knowledge to punish me. I will make offerings tonight at the moon altar and ask the spirits once again to guide and protect us.
