Jack, Tony, Commander Dark, and Deakin had remained at the headquarters, helping where they could and supervising the evacuation of the injured.

“What now?” Dark asked when they watched the last of the ambulances leave. The Forensic teams were already working on the blast areas looking for evidence as to what explosives were used and trying to find anything they could use to track and capture whoever was responsible.

Capture was the last thing on Jack’s mind. He had another way of dealing with them, and it was definitely more ‘Old Testament’ than what had been suggested already.

“I suggest we all go home and try and get some rest. We can visit this again tomorrow when we are all fresh,” Tony said.

“What about Mike? If we’ve all been targeted, then surely he will have been too,” Jack said.

“It’s all been arranged. While you and John were helping out down there,” Tony said, indicating the underground HQ, “I called in a favor. He’s being flown back to his old unit in Fort Bragg, where he’ll be looked after in their hospital. It’s probably the safest place for him to be right now,” he finished.

Nodding his head in agreement, Jack asked, “When does he leave?”

“They said they’d send the ambulance around to transport him ASAP.”

“Right, I’ll make sure he gets to the airport okay, then I’ll go get some shut-eye,” Jack said and left the group.

There were plenty of vehicles parked nearby around the streets where the HQ was. He said to one of the Forensic team, “Throw me your keys, I need your car. Don’t worry, I’ll get it back for you as soon as I can.”

“It’s okay mate. I’ll hitch a ride with one of the others,” the tech replied as he tossed him a bunch of keys.

Jack caught it in mid-air and ran to the curb, pressing the button and looking for the tell-tale bleep of the alarm shutting off as the doors were unlocked.
