I woke up feeling smothered and disoriented, with something heavy and hot draped over me. One eye cracked open carefully. Still dark, but the moon peeked in my window, played hide and seek with the shadows. How long had I slept? A quick glance at the nightstand showed four a.m. in startling neon green.

I looked around carefully. It was Grey’s body pressing me into the mattress, face down on my pillow, and snoring softly. He’d turned his head away from me, but his leg was over my thighs, and his arm lay heavily across my chest. Confusion was my immediate reaction. Did he walk in his sleep? What was he doing in my bed?

Then the night came rushing back to me and I blushed to the roots of my hair. I also remembered why he shouldn’t be in my bed and why I should be angry with him. My gut reaction said to shove him off the bed, and hope he bruised his fine ass on the floor. Then I realized I didn’t know which of them would wake up with me. I’d fallen asleep happily snuggled up to the wolf. He must’ve fallen asleep before going back to his own bed.

I might’ve woken up to Grey instead of his wolf. Either way, I found myself smashed beneath one of them and he didn’t seem to be moving anytime soon. I’d worry about it later. For the moment, I urgently needed to get up and use the bathroom.

Then what? Crawl back into bed with him like nothing was out of the ordinary? Wake him up and hope it was the wolf? I’d have to take a chance, keep my mouth shut, and if Grey woke up, well so what? I could always accuse him of sleep walking and throw him out of my bed. I was still mad at him, right? Right. Of course, I would be acting strangely. Good plan. First things first. I had to get out from under him, use the bathroom, and get my game face on.

I scooted sideways, grabbed the edge of the mattress, and pulled myself slowly out from under him. Everything was going fine till I moved. He stopped snoring, groaned into his pillow as his leg tightened across me automatically. I stopped moving, waited for him to relax. His arm slipped down my chest. He got to second base by accident. Shit. Grey would have a stroke if he woke up with his hand on my boob. Should I move? Pretend to be asleep and wait for him to shift away from me?

The wolf in my head took pity and decided to help me out. ‘He’s awake.’

He was? ‘How do you know?’

‘Listen to his heartbeat. Hear that? It sped up. His breath? He’s holding it.’ I listened intently and realized he was right. He held his breath, then let it out, slow and measured, trying to make it seem like natural sleep. The hand didn’t move, I noticed.

‘That little sneak. Which one is it?’

‘The human.
